Why Horses

Herds are to horses what teams are to humans. Leaders of a herd must be aware of each member’s contributions, while also keeping the herd cohesive as a unit.

They must be aware of the actions of each member of the herd in the present, while also being vigilant of the direction the herd is headed and the big picture.

They are responsible for the dynamic balance between facing current challenges and opportunities and strategic movement forward into the horizon.

Horses have a lot to teach us about leadership, clear and consistent communication, and how to be always tuned in to your team.

Progressive and successful leaders realize that creating a cooperative team attitude among employees is one of the key elements to increasing productivity.

When individual employees learn to work together and honor each other’s contributions they are not only happier in their jobs, which translates into higher employee retention, but they also produce higher quality work and positively affect the financial performance of the company.

Culture, diversity, and inclusion are essential in today’s workforce. Teambuilding with horses encourages working in collaboration, leading with respect and inclusion.

Our activities with horses provide a safe and intentional space for staff to connect, and create a collaborative and inclusive space. Horses by example can help create and support a business culture of belonging.

As in business, the survival of a herd depends on good leaders and team members working together toward a shared goal. Horses are naturally authentic and emotionally intelligent, all the time.

Members of a herd will challenge a leader who is vague, confusing, or has a hidden agenda. With a horse, you can’t hide your true feelings, finesse your way through, bully your way around, or hope they will just do what you say because you are nice to them. We are all uniquely vulnerable in the presence of horses.

This shared vulnerability dissolves cultural and gender barriers, in the arena the proverbial field is leveled.

Horses ask us to step up and be congruent, present, clear, and authentic leaders.
